I've always loved books... since before I could read them for myself. When I was young, my mom would read to me, and she's probably the reason I have always loved the written word. When I read, I am absorbed into the text, seeing the characters, looking around at the scenery, and willing the heroine to make the right decisions.
I remember adoring "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark," R.L. Stine Goosebumps, and the "Chiller" books that Francine Pascal wrote for Sweet Valley Twins. I guess it was only natural that I would become a fan of horror and the macabre. The Dark Tower has been my favorite series since before the fourth book (of seven) was released, and continues to be so now that I have seen the end of the story. I love most of Stephen King's novels, my most recent favorite being Duma Key, which I listened to twice and still got the book for my Kindle. I love the way he writes, the way he speaks to "constant reader" in the beginning of some of his stories and the end of others, giving some insight to his work and why he writes. It has always made me want to write.
When I'm not reading King, I like paranormal romances that don't loose the story in favor of porn, but I'm not really a prude- I just expect to get an actual story when I'm reading fiction. I enjoyed most of the Vampire Chronicles of Anne Rice until right around Blackwood Farm. I think Kim Harrison, Charlaine Harris, Kelley Armstrong, and Jeanine Frost are amazing authors whose books I am addicted to. I also enjoy Harry Potter and other such whimsical stuff, as well as many of the classics like Jane Eyre, and what my college considered "World literature"-- I loved "Sister of my Heart," and have a sick desire to reread "Beauty and Sadness" for some reason, even though it was one of the more depressing books I've read in recent years.
I don't often go looking for new literature, but I am very happy to try new authors out as long as someone who knows my taste recommends them. In the absence of money to buy new books, I'm always rereading my favorites. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you'll recommend a great book that I should read soon :)
