I started off on novels at about 11 on a diet of terrible books including the Goosebumps series, some other miscellaneous teen horror and Virginia Andrews, including the V.C. Andrews books which were not even written by the woman herself! I progressed through (nearly) the entire Anne Rice vampires series and a few John Saul books in my early teens before finally moving on to REAL BOOKS with the help of a good highschool English teacher. I was also introduced to graphic novels (i.e. comics!) after I left highschool and now have a good collection, with Alan Moore being my chosen God of the comic universe.
I still have a soft spot for horror, with H.P. Lovecraft and Clive Barker holding a special place in my heart, but I have now embraced a range of fiction (mainly) from the crazy punks like Bret Easton Ellis and Craig Clevenger to the crazy punks like Hunter S Thompson. :) There has also been a dash of sci fi thrown in by a friendly book swapping neighbor in my early twenties.
I'm willing to give anything a go, except romance.
