“The author of this book changed my life! Born in a multi-racial family and being raised away from most of my family members I had a lot of questions about the way I came to be. I look nothing like most of the familymembers and as a child that was so confusing since I did not grow up in the beautiful melting pot that is called Suriname. My mother gave me this book when I was just a teen and for the first time I understood my roots! Everything made sense to me from the colour of my skin a red shade of brown, my nappy hair and my blue eyes. This lady has a gift to describe people and their familytree in a way that you feel connected with them as if they were family! This book also describes how the marrons fought to free the slaves in the "boni-wars.
In short this is the story of the unjust slavetrade and company in the colony of Suriname and truly explains to us just how expensive sugar is.
Anyone who can get their hands on this book in their native language should not doubt for a second and grab it! ”
