He is an old man now, and very sick, so he begs his son and his wife to come and stay with him. Though his son mainly only came to hear his side of the Holocaust, Vlad is willing to oblige him. As a person, he seems to be very careful with his life and belongings, trying to cling to the better times of his past, while trying to shove the terrible parts away.
