    Sauron: Once a Maiar himself like Gandalf and Saruman, he allowed himself to be lead astray by the fallen Valar Melkor, also known as Morgoth. After his master was captured and imprisoned for eternity by the angered Valar, Sauron deceived many races into accepting rings to rule their races. The nine rings men took enslaved them to his will. Only the rings held by the Elves were left untouched. He also had a ring made that gave him all power. It would have been the end, if Isildur had not cut the ring from his hand. It survived when it should have been thrown back in Mt. Doom. So Sauron survived, making himself into the form of a great eye wreathed in flame, ever searching for his Ring.
