Juan Cabrillo: The main character in the Oregon series. He is a tall handsome man in his forties, blond, blue-eyed, with a moustache. During a battle he lost a leg and has had it replaced with a high-tech prosthetic with little sign of injury, though it causes him phantom pain. The Corporation's Magic Shop has outfitted the prosthesis with several "tools of the trade" that help get him out of trouble from time to time. He was once married, but his wife died while driving drunk, which makes him less of a ladies man than Cussler's other heroes, Dirk Pitt and Kurt Austin. He shares his name with a Spanish conquistador from the time of Fernando Cortez, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo.
Juan Cabrillo: Former CIA operative and current chairman of "the Corporation". He and the other members of the Corporation take on missions that governments or other groups, can't or won't. Like all of Cussler's protagonists, he is tall and good looking, but not as much of a ladies man as Dirk Pitt or Kurt Austin. He has a prosthetic foot and he he often equips it with more tools and gadgets than even "Q" from James Bond could.
