Jonas: Jonas is the protagonist in this book. He has something unique about him. Jonas sees things beyond what they really are. He lives in a Utopian community where there are no weather changes and everyone just does as they are told. He is given the "assignment" of "Reciever of Memories" and he learns about all the memories of the world. He sees color and hears music, which is a very unique thing. Leaves his town to go to another. He experiences snow and color and music.
“Things could change. Things could be different. I don't know how, but there must be some way for things to be different. There could be grandparents. And colors. And everybody would have memories.”
Jonas: Teta Elzbieta’s brother. He is the one who originally encouraged them to move to America. However, after a time of poverty he disappears and the family never sees him again. He was one of the main wage earners, so this puts them in even more financial trouble.
Jonas: Main character in the Giver. When Jonas turns 12, he is singled out for special training from The Giver.
