Jeffrey Alper: Jeffrey battled luekemia when he was a young boy. He is now in the 8th grade and has to walk with a limp, a cancer after-effect. His brain does not also work quite right due to methotrexate, so he struggles in school. His best friend, Tad, is also a cancer survivor, so they like to stay close to each other. Tad's after effects are a little worse, and he has to use a wheelchair. Jeffrey struggles in this book with friendships, relationships, and his own family. He feels most free when he is riding his bicycle.
