   Clay Jensen: He is the main character in this book. He is sent Hannah's tapes because he is the ninth reason listed on the tapes. The entire book revolves around his listening to the tapes while walking around the city. He is on the tapes not because he is the reason, but mainly because Hannah wanted him to know why she committed suicide. She also feels bad about not accepting his help, just a few days before her death, but also feels angry towards him for not probing further and comforting her when she needed it, even though she pushed him away.
