Belgarath: Garion's grandfather. The most famous sorcerer in the world, and extremely powerful. The first disciple of the god Aldur.
Belgarath: The main character. The 1st person viewpoint is from him. As a boy, Garath is a bit "naughty". After being kicked out of his village, he wanders around and ends up serving a god. This kind god works Garath hard in order for him to discover magic, which is called "The Will and the Word". Garath finally finds out about this power, and becomes the god's disciple. His name is changed to Belgarath. From now on, Belgarath is about the most powerful human-type being (only the gods have more power).
