“Dhurmic’s head popped into view. He grimaced when he spotted her. “Nice of ye to let me know where ye were, me lady,” he said with a grunt. “Nicer still to allow me the chance to get me exercise, huffin’ and puffin’ me way around this wee castle.” His voice was so heavy with sarcasm that it made her smile.“Um, Dhurmic, I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but this is not a wee castle.” “Nay, me lady, I wasna aware of that tiny detail,” he spat as he attempted to haul himself up, but couldn’t seem to. “I wasna aware of that as I climbed stair after stair, barged inta door after door, threatened half the guard, and bruised most of me body climbing into bloody crawl spaces that should never get crawled into in the firs’ place!””
““He is arrogant and rude.” Dhurmic harrumphed. “So am I, and yet ye are still speaking to me.” She turned to him in surprise. He winked, and she couldn’t stop a small smile from coming to her lips. “So you are. But you at least have some redeeming qualities.” “And he doesna?”Auri scowled at the skies again. “None that I’ve seen,” she murmured.“Mayhap this is part of the lesson that he teaches.” “What? Self control?””
““I’m fine,” she said, avoiding the questions in his eyes. “Go get something to eat. I’ll be in when I’ve spoken to his-highness-of-the-skies." Dhurmic laughed, noted the troubled look still lurking in her eyes, and then sighed. “Aye, food,” he said, leaving it be. He patted his axe in a friendly way. “And maybe a wee discussion with a few of the lads.” “If you discuss anymore with them, they’re going to kill you.” He winked. “It may surprise ye to know this, but I’m pretty quick on me feet.” He sauntered away, whistling a tune.”
