    The youngest child of Fernanda and Aureliano, Amaranta inherits the personality traits of Ursula, and shares some of Remedios' beauty. While at a convent school in Europe, she falls in love with and marries a pilot called Gaston, who she takes back to decaying Macondo. Amaranta attempts to restore life and order to the Buendia's ancestral house, but instead becomes wrapped up in an incestual affair with her nephew, Aureliano. She dies giving birth to the last of the Buendia line.
