I have been hungrily devouring this series all summer. I am about a third of he way through Midnight Tides. I admit the first book is the least successful as I look back, but I really enjoyed it while I was reading it. I admit here were a few characters that I had trouble keepng straight as the first book moved to its climax. but they have resolved nicely over time. I like how Erikson takes each book into a new territory and how each one also adds to the immensely detailed world he has created. There are always some characters that are wildy funny mixed in with passages of ghastly horror and darkness. Frankly I think that he has surpassed Tolkien and Herbert for me already. Seldom in recent times have I become so immersed in a world: the Gap Series by Donaldson comes to mind, but those books are less about worldbuilding, based as they are on the Ring cycle. I am not looking forward to later this fall when I finally catch up with him and have to wait before I can get my next fix.
