Chaosmos

I have been an avid reader since early childhood. This was to my advantage when I almost lost a leg due to a motorcycle accident in High School and was laid up for months on end.

My reading interests include: Modern-Postmodern Fiction (particularly Joyce, Pynchon, Coover, Gaddis, Vollman), Science Fiction (particularly Space Opera),... more »

Thanks for adding me as a friend, Chaosmos. Your interests and your bookshelf are thoroughly impressive... my wish list will now grow accordingly (LOL). If I may be so bold, based on your profile and bookshelf, I highly recommend that you check out Amit Goswami's "The Self-Aware Universe", which I am reading now. Goswami calls his philosophy Monistic Idealism: the belief that mind precedes matter, and that the universe has been created specifically for the benefit of sentient beings, like ourselves. Best wishes for 2008, and I will definitely stop back in the not-too-distant future. Sieur Jehan

    Dear Chaosmos:
I am very much impressed by the list of the books you've read so far. As long as I am going to conduct a comparative study on the Oriental literature with that of the Occident, I would appreciate if you could recommend some useful books on comparative mythology.

Part of what has been remarkable about reading this book is the synchronistic events that keep happening in my life relating to what I am reading. Some one on Shelfari was wondering if anyone knew of anyone doing Holotropic Breathwork and then the same day I read about the guy who developed that. I became so intrigued I found a workshop in north Seattle and signed up for it. I couldn't think of the word synchronicity when I was trying to describe this to Diann. Then the next section of the book was about synchronicity. This book provides a very nice, scientific way to see how there is a unity back of all things. That everything arises, or unfolds from that and then folds back into it. Sickness and health are part of the same continuam of life. It is a very healing notion because it puts illness into a wholeness or unitary context, which is the only way really for it to be released. As long as it appears as a force from outside impinging upon me I am powerless. When it is just an aspect of my very being, then I have control. I could go on and on but I really think you would enjoy reading this book.

Have you read "The Holographic Universe" by Michael Talbot? This is one of those "right book at the right time" things for me.

My recovery continues, slowly, but fairly surely I think. I have more energy than before yet I am still a long ways from 100%. I am interested in reading more about those early Christians and the book you suggest sounds intriguing. Maybe I will see you tomorrow at church. :)
