Books are among my favorite things in the world. I love them so much, I teach from them at school, I give them as gifts, I'm constantly running out of shelf space for them in my house, and I think the world can be saved by reading and studying books.

Books are among my favorite things in the world. I love them so much, I teach from them at school, I give them as gifts, I'm constantly running out of shelf space for them in my house, and I think the world can be saved by reading and studying books.

I am teacher. I teach Seventh Grade Language Arts - Reading and Writing. A few years ago, I read a book by Stephen King (I've read several, but this one was important) in which he mentioned making a list of books he read every year. That year, he had read 78 books, and 12 of them had been audiobooks. I decided, to honor Mr. King as a writer I both enjoy and respect, I would do the same. That year, I read 12 books, which was paltry compared to King's 78. I decided then to challenge myself. I would read one novel-length book every 2 weeks, or 26 books in a year. The next year, I read 40 books.

Now, every year I set a goal for myself. If I make it, great! If I don't, no big deal... I'm reading, so there's no way I can lose. I recently joined Audible.com, too, so that I can download books and listen to them during my commute to and from work.

Last year my daughter, who was 10, joined me in the challenge, too. She reads very fast, though they were novel-length books, and totaled 86! Take that, Stephen King! « less
