“Going out on a limb here to say that Ms. Roberts seems to have lost her writing oomph. In fact I had that thought since her recent book about mountain lions. She makes up in repetition for a lack of imagination. She's still good at premises, beginnings and endings, it's the "in between" where I tend to lose interest. They jump a fire, they return and jump each other, eat and repeat. Rowan should have been a capable woman able to think, instead she came across as a whiny, know-it-all, bitch. Gull, who had all the earmarks of a TDF hero, ended up being almost an afterthought. He shows up for sex and pithy comments and then obediently disappears into the woodwork. Prolly won't be re-reading this one.”
