I love research, creative writing and journaling in addition to reading broadly.

I'm a Candidate for Unitarian Universalist ministry so you will see a large selection of religion, theology, and spirituality-genre books in... more »

Just checking in. Haven't seen you on 12 x 12 recently and I've missed your input. I hope all is well with you. I'm still listening to "Bonhoeffer" and working away at "Elizabeth I." Went through a reading slump/absence myself and some faces have been been notably absent on my return.

Christie, you are so right about the high costs for most things here. Although, I hadn't quite look at it as living on an island. I am always asking "Why do things have to be so expensive?". Lol. If you ever do get to come, I'll show you around even though I live in the business zone and not the resort areas.

Hey Christy, you and I have a lot more books in common than I thought at first look. I have read most if not all of the Nancy Drew mysteries, some of the Garfield comics and even the Health book with Dr. Phil which are on your shelf. I just haven't add them yet, if ever I get around to it. It's fun looking at other people's shelves because you get to see so many books you read but didn't remember.

You recently referenced Bonhoeffer, whom I'd never heard of but sounded very interesting. I was excited to discover the writer is Eric Metaxas, who also wrote Amazing Grace, which I just finished and was excellent. I listened to a very short section from my computer and am really looking forward it. Thank you for letting me know about him.

Hi Christy, Hope you're well - see you're reading plenty! I'm reading October Sky by Homer H Hickam and loving it. Still haven't quite got to grips with Shelfari properly but been busy with lots of other stuff. Just posted a competition on my blog to win a free copy of my book and thought I'd send you the link http://www.mj-johnson.com/blog.html if you think it might be something you'd enjoy reading. Take care. Keep reading, Martin

    Hi Christine,

I live in Kent, South East England, although I am actually from a place called Aberdare in South Wales. I trained as an actor at a place called RADA in the seventies. I am married and we have one son who has just had his thirtieth birthday.

I joined up to Shelfari for several reasons: I wanted to build a platform for my own work and some kind of profile for myself as a writer but also I wanted to interact with other readers. Like you I almost can't remember a time when I didn't read. I doubt I'd be able to recall the titles of half the books I've read - but then, it's only the special favourites that really matter. I love Charles Dickens probably best of all, however, I adore most modern American writers (from Mark Twain on basically), Steinbeck is a very big hero of mine. One of my favourite books of all time is Catch 22 - my wife admires it as a novel but says it's a guy's book - I'm not sure about that! A few years ago I loved Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier, the next book he wrote was well written but didn't pack the same emotional punch.

I've been to a Unitarian Church several times and always found the congregation open-minded, warm and inviting. The services were always very interesting. I personally don't belong to any church, although my wife and I have attended Quaker meetings off and on for very many years. I have also read a great number of spiritual books, William James, Emmett Fox, Joel S Goldsmith even Norman Vincent Peale amongst them. I like the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle very much.

I look forward to hearing more about your love of books. Take care

    Martin

    Hi C Baker
I joined Shelfari yesterday and I'm trying to get involved. I see you've got wide eclectic tastes in books as I have (most not added yet), so thought I'd follow.
