This is a fascinating histroy of the dutch colony of Manhattan. It tells the story beginning with Henry Hudson and then the final takeover by the english in the late sixteen hundreds. There is so much more Dutch history in the New York area that pertains to the development of the United States then I ever realized. This is great read for anyone who has connections to New York state or Manhattan. It really filled in gaps and gave me a whole new frame to look at New York City, international trade and Dutch life in the 1600's.

This book filled in many gaps of knowledge that I had about eating. It is a very informative book and a great read. Pollan's descriptions and personal views created a new perspective for me and permanently changed how I look at food.

This is a interesting adaptation of this story into a Manga-style serial comic. Very fun and an interesting perspective on this story.

I like the descriptions of Mars, Jupiter and the Moon the best in this book. Sobel has a great skill for making her subjects great reads.

When I read this book it changed how I look at trade and the migration of people to other places in the world. It seems to me when H3 was invented its use, besides increasing our view of the world it made us see it in a new way. Shipping networks became more reliable and connections to other places became more regular.
