The Poet

The Poet

Hi There!
Before I begin my profile I have decided to let all those who care know that many of my books are in the Reading List section of Shelfari. I have put all books I own but have not yet read onto those shelves. Sigh. . .I still have a few hundred books I have read and need to be put on my cyber book shelf. It is just so darned... more »

    Hi Poet,

Yes, Hitler was such an insidious and inhumane being (I think he lost his humanity as an adolescent). I am reading Cormac McCarthy's "The Road". It is so lyrically written, with such stark contrasts and brilliant metaphors. The characters have minimal dialogue but the reader is so emotionally attune to the depth of their relationship with one another. I like this book because it gives me hope that even under the threat of death and in the midst of constant danger human love can thrive, and unselfishness can still be chosen as a way of life. There is so much raw tenderness between father and son in this rugged "man" book that it could make even the most frozen heart weep.

I noticed your post in the Civil War group about McPherson's "Battle Cry of Freedom." I am looking to read more Civil War related books. Maybe you can opine on a couple that I recently added to my shelf. No one seems to have read (or put on their shelf -- more likely) many of these books, which I found to be quite astonishing. Anyway, hope all is well. Thanks.

I thought I saw the Orlando Figes book on your shelf. Oh, well. No, I'm not a belly dancer (though I admire it). That's a mayan festival. I'd like to know the site you're talking about. I love to watch dance.

I see Whisperings on your shelf. I love this author's earlier books. Will certainly read this one. Have you read Serbdom by Wm. Jovanivich? (I am taking it you are a fellow slavophile.)

I will try The Glory and the Lightning. I have not read a TC book in years, but I love her characters. I loved Joeseph Armah-I think that was the character's name-in Captains and the Kings. Did you know that Captains... and Ceremony of two Men were made into mini series?

Hi! Just watched the TED video with Phillip Zimbardo. Amazing! I have to get the book now. Books instead of bread, eh?

I've been writing today and am just about to relax with a book of Barbara Ras' poetry.
Went to see "W" yesterday. Very very interesting. Worth seeing and thinking and talking about.

"The Secret" is by Rhonda Byrne. I'd sure like another opinion on it.

I am very glad you liked Nichita Stanescu's poems...I love his poetry, and he didn't receive the Nobel prize because he died that year...yes, Nichita's poems are sublimations of a different reality - he used to say that he doesn't use words in a poem, a vocabulary is so limited in expressing the entire range of what someone feels, sees and thinks, so he uses 'unwords', which might seem strange and immaterial at the first reading, but then the meanings beautifully unfold, you gain some sort of a sixth sense and you get to see that world has so many different nuances, floating around you in the thin air.
As for my being a writer...well, I am pleased you like my posts, but I am no writer. I confess it's the only thing I picture myself to be ever since I learned to read and write. I also study literature...I just finished highschool and I'm in the first year at the faculty of Belle-lettres at the University of Bucharest, where I study Romanian literature, English literature, a little bit of Latin and also I can't wait to go to a class of Hindi (which was optional, but I applied, it just seemed so exotic!). Don't be afraid of boring me (as you have seen, I have the same fear!) and please tell me whatever you like! as you see, my life revolves around the world of literature, so discussing with someone sharing the same interests is always pleasing!

    Hi!

Like you, I tend to read things in spells: fiction, poetry, poetry, fiction, psychology, theology, etc. Sometimes, I have a couple going at one time--do you do that? I am reading "Born to Slow Horses" which is a poetry/prose book. Very odd and interesting.

I never graduated from college; did other things instead--some good, some not so good. But the universe has taken good care of me so far. Check with me again when I reach 100.

I also just finished reading "The Secret." It was a gift from a friend. Have you read it? I'd love to know what you think of it. I think we'd be great friends too.

I loved your poem. Thank you for sending it along. Nice work, girl!

Thanks too for the reminder on MARGIE and BELLVUE. I keep entering those. Ever hopeful.

    Warmest,
    Martina
