My primary teachers would totally be amazed that I am a member of a book site. I struggled to learn how to read and they even bluntly informed my parents they didn't expect me to make it through school. Not only did I graduate from High School, went to college, have earned 3 Masters degree, I have almost completed a Doctoral program.
I love to read books. Historical fiction is probably my favorite, but I also like a wide variety of genres including westerns, historical, mystery, educational, romance, children, counseling, and political books. I also read financial newsletters and such not.
My hobbies include model railroads, collecting coins & stamps, fish (salt, tropical, and koi), and ham radio. Therefore, I also have developed a habit of reading about these various interests.
By profession I am a teacher of 5th graders. I am entering my 11th year of teaching. I work mainly with Hispanic children which I love. The school I work at is a community school. I'm also very interested in integrating technology into the classroom which means I read quite a bit about technology.
I have one son who is 9. He has also struggled to learn how to read as he has been diagnosed with severe dyslexia and dysgraphia. He has undergone extensive tutoring and is doing wonderful now. However, he has as of yet to develop a love of reading. He has read maybe a half dozen books now with the first being just before Thanksgiving. I'm hoping that one day he will develop that same love.
