I work in a university library; have two daughters (22 and 28); spend all my free time reading; just starting to draw and paint again; beginning to write in a writers' group; and am yearning to travel. I read nearly anything that comes my way, although I'm not usually drawn to science-fiction or horror or chick-lit. I've recently discovered South American writing that takes me to new places, especially through the magical realism genre - love it! And, because I'm Dutch and spent my early years in Holland, I try to read as much translated Dutch fiction as I can.
Because there is no other way, on this site, to make a note of authors I wish to read, I will list them here for my reference: Jorge Luis Borges, Italo Calvino, Salman Rushdie, Rohinton Mistry, Michael Ondaatje, J.M. Coetzee, Mark Helprin, Jose Saramago, Thomas Mann, Tom Robbins...
Books to the ceiling/ Books to the sky/ My pile of books is a mile high/ How I love them! How I need them!/ I'll have a long beard by the time I read them.
~ Arnold Lobel
