“I would have liked for this story to be first in person - from the doctor’s wife perspective. It would have had more meaning for me. As it was - it kept me at a distance, especially with the auctorial interjections. I prefer more subtle foreshadowing - the kind that just builds a slow, quiet foundation and then when something happens - you just knew that it had to happen that way. As apposed to the use of - this and this hasn’t happened, “... yet.” But overall – the book was compelling and worth reading. Will probably read the follow-up novel, SEEING. If you like the use of tropes and layers of meaning of light/darkness and seeing/blindness in themes of humanity – read INVISIBLE MAN by Ralph Ellison. One of the greatest works of literature ever.”
