I love reading. That is why I became a librarian. I want to share that love with students, teachers, family, friends, and anyone else who will listen!! I think books are an important part of making our lives rich with experiences.

    The Practice
The Dalai Lama shared the following simple practice that will increase loving and compassion in the world.

    The Practice:
    1. Spend 5 minutes at the beginning of each day remembering we all want the same things (to be happy and be loved) and we are all connected to one another.
    2. Spend 5 minutes -- breathing in - cherishing yourself; and, breathing out - cherishing others. If you think about people you have difficulty cherishing, extend your cherishing to them anyway.
    3. During the day extend that attitude to everyone you meet. Practice cherishing the simplest person (clerks, attendants, etc., as well as the "important" people in your life; cherish the people you love and the people you dislike).
    4. Continue this practice no matter what happens or what anyone does to you.

These thoughts are very simple, inspiring and helpful. The practice of cherishing can be taken very deep if done wordlessly; allowing yourself to feel the love and appreciation that already exists in your heart.

    Hi Emily!
I just finished my favorite of the summer: The Help. It is a "must read." Making my daughters read it now! Having a good summer? See you soon...

I liked all of them! I read all three in two days and now I have to wait until 2010 for the 4th one :-(( What should I read now? I want a really good, fun book - nothing sad or depressing!

I absolutely LOVE it. My 9th grader couldn't put it down and the girls here that their parents don't mind them reading something a bit steamy, love it too. It is one of my favorite series. Can't wait for the next one to come out in October. Let me know what you think. Probably not always the best writing, I don't usually think about that when the story line is so great, never a dull moment. Hope you enjoy it.

Emily, what did you think of the book Need by Carrie Jones? It started out so great, I could hardly put it down. But then it got so cliched and predictable that I was very disappointed. I mean, really, how dumb is this girl? Everyone tells her not to go out after dark, so what does she do as soon as she's left alone - yeah, go running after dark. Nick tells her to stay in the house and what does she do- go out looking for him. Pixies attack the house but can't get into her bedroom, but what does she do - goes out on showshoes (!!) to try to get somewhere (not specified). It had such a great beginning that I was really irritated with the rest of it.

Emily, I'm in the middle of Aurelie (it's my lunch book!) It's pretty good so far. I wish it were longer - it will be over too soon.

I just finished it last night and I thought it was pretty good. In general, I am not a fan of these "re-told" fairy tales, but this one was OK. I can't say it was one of my all-time favorites, but those don't come around very often. While I really liked the historical setting, I have my doubts that my kids will be very interested in it. We'll see.

Alas, Nancy lost her book in those very sands of Passion Island (Cozumel)...wonder what the next tourist thought when this itty-bitty volume of "Book Lust" [wasn't that the title?] washed up on the beach?
