  • Bone: Out from Boneville (Bone (Graphix Hardcover))
    • Rated 4 stars

A truly epic story, for those who like long sags like lord of the ring, though with more of a sense of humour! Bone tells the story of 3 unusual "bone creatures" who are driven out of their village, to a mysterious valley filled with dragons, rat creatures, and more

  • The Catcher in the Rye
    • Rated 3 stars

An interesting book, probably more famous, for all the wrong reasons, then it should be.
A very self-absorbed central character, gets annoying after a while.

    Melog

    by Mihangel Morgan

An endearingly odd story set in a small town in wales. It tells the tale of a would be PhD who plays host to a man who claims to come from a country that is not known on any map..

  • The Bell Jar

    The Bell Jar

    by Sylvia Plath
    • Rated 5 stars

A damning description of how depression was treated 50 years ago. A very personal story, foreshadowing the authors' early demise..

  • A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian
    • Rated 4 stars

A curious tale of a ukrainian family in england. A father wants to remarry, but his daughters do not trust the would-be wife. There is a political aspect harking back to the 80s, and an interesting description of how foreign families come to integrate into life in england

  • Before the Frost (Vintage Crime/Black Lizard)
    • Rated 5 stars

An interesting continuation of the "wallander" mysteries, with his daughter about to become a policeman. This time, a friend of linda's dissappears, and this weaves in with a story of murder and mystery

  • Foucault's Pendulum
    • Rated 4 stars

A slightly more highbrow, and less silly version of the da vinci code. It's also broadly about the holy grail, but more importantly, about people's need to believe in things.

I think this was the first book eco wrote based in modern times, but still it mostly harks back to the middle ages and renaissance

  • Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell: A Novel
    • Rated 4 stars

An exhaustively written fantasy, based on celtic myth - it tells the story of 2 magicians in the napoleonic era. The book is enlarged by many footnotes, giving it a rather scholarly appearance, which i myslef found engaging.
