I've never heard of this Norse fairy tale before and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. I thought it would be a Beauty and the Beast story (nothing wrong with this; I love B&B stories) but this was quite a unique story in and of itself. My only complaint is that I wish we'd gotten to know a little bit more about Asher.

This is probably the BEST book I've read in a long, long time. Maybe even the best ever. I love the characters, the setting, the changes in perspective, the magic, the mystery, the dreamy enchanting quality, the way everything fits together, the way the book completely drew me in...

The first half of the book took me 10 times as long to read as the second half. I think it's a problem when it takes a book nearly 200 pages to really get into the good stuff. The beginning dragged on and on with all the battles and background, and I actually put the book down and started reading other books instead. It was only when I was left with nothing to read but this, that I picked it back up and finished it.

Thankfully, the second half of the book (when Stephanos comes into the picture) becomes much more interesting. Despite this, I still had a hard time understanding what was going on in most of this story. Still not quite sure what happened at the very end, but I don't think I like it. There was a very dreamy, vague quality to the writing that didn't do it any favors. I wish the beginning was a quarter of its length, and I got a bit more of meat in Stephanos and Sara's story.

I put off reading this book despite seeing it on multiple recommendation lists because the cover (the most recent edition; not the one on my shelf) was just too terrible for me. But this was actually much better than I expected! I didn't really care for the main character Alissa, but I liked Useless a lot and I'm completely intrigued by Bailic.

This is outside of what I normally read but I picked it up because I'm a fan of Emily Gee's other works. To be honest, she should definitely stick to fantasy. It's one thing to be inspired by another work, but this took way too much from Pride and Prejudice. Distasteful and cliched. And if I hear one more description of Kate's freckles and red hair, I think I might go crazy.

This had potential but I was seriously disappointed. I didn't realize the protagonist was so young. And when I got to the part where the 20-something year old guy was having sex with the prepubescent 10-year-old appearing girl, I just couldn't go on anymore.

Really enjoyed reading this! Maria V. Snyder always has the most creative and intriguing worlds. I love the magic in her novels. The characters of Avry and Kerrick are great and Kerrick's team is hilarious. I almost gave this 4 stars because of the atrociously ugly cover art, but one must not judge a book by its cover right?

Intriguing concept though a little predictable. The writing made me feel strangely disconnected from the plot and the characters. I think this book had potential but I just couldn't get into it.

Still really good though some parts did drag a little bit. I liked the 'big reveal' but the characters are beginning to change in a way that I don't know if I like (especially Han). The parallelism between Han/Raisa and Alger/Hanalea is a little disturbing and it's one of those things that screams out at the reader but the characters just carry on without worrying too much about it. Guess I'll have to wait until next fall to see how this will pan out!

One of those books where the conclusions that I expect (and want) keeps eluding me! It definitely keeps me hooked. That and the fact that I love the characters' complexities, the intricacies of the background stories, and how unpredictable everything is. I couldn't put this one down and can't wait to read the next.
