Two of my lifelong passions are reading and writing. Like another Shelfarian member said on her profile, I'll even be caught reading packaging in the supermarket just so I can study language from a marketing and communications perspective. I'm not saying that reading is the best thing to do in life, but certainly if more people read more, then I... more »

Quite alright, Ben - we have no objection to casual members. And congrats on the new arrival - whenever he/she arrives.

Hi Ben - Welcome to the History Non-Fiction Group. Please forgive me for taking so long to welcome you. I've been away on business. I'm the Admin for the group and am interested in what our members like to read and what they want to get out of this group. If you haven't already done so, please introduce yourself in our "Welcome and Introduction" thread and tell us what your interests are. The group is currently reading The Linguist and the Emperor: Napoleon and Champollion's Quest to Decipher the Rosetta Stone by Daniel Meyerson for the Jul-Sep quarter. This book discusses the two men whose lives intersected over a love of all things Egypt and led to Champollion solving the mystery of the language on the Rosetta Stone. It's not too late to join in with the group. The book is fairly short - only 271 pages including the Author's Note at the end - and easy to read so it's a good book for the first ever quarterly read. Discussion thread will be posted mid-September. Please join us. Again, glad to have you with us.
