My name is Natalie, I'm 28 and married to my High School sweetheart. I absolutely love books and pretty much anything that has to do with them. I like to read my books, organize them, re-read them, and write about them (thank you Shelfari for giving me one more thing to be obsessive about when it comes to books.) Other than that I like... more »

  • The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy
    • Rated 5 stars

I really liked it! The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy is just that. Girl Friends who have gone through pregnancy giving advice. Not doctors! I liked that. I have no local friends who have had babies. I have my Mom of course but there is only so much you want to talk to a mother about. This book was fun to read and gave some good tips.

  • Shadow Kin
    • Rated 3 stars

Shadow is a skilled Assassin, trained by the best, and controlled by the ruthless Blood Lord Lucius. She is his weapon and slave, until the night he sends her after the sunmage Simon DuCaine. Simon is determined to save the woman sent to kill him. He sees something good in her, and yes, she's attractive. Now they are going to try and save the city from the machinations of Lucius and hopefully, in the process, save themselves.

I liked how the book started. Shadow, which I like better than her real name, is a strong but vulnerable character and she is very likable. Simon starts out okay, a bit of a crusader but he's nice enough. However, my opinion of Simon goes down throughout the book. He is too much the crusader, irrationally afraid of his "dark side," and all too willing to believe the worst in Shadow. I wanted to punch him several times at the end of the book and I was annoyed that Shadow didn't do it herself. There really isn't enough story outside of them and the "need." The plot is otherwise fairly boring. If there is a next book I hope it's about his brother.

  • Diaries of an Urban Panther
    • Rated 4 stars

Violet Jordan thought were-panthers and the supernatural was just something she wrote about when writing for her small time production company. That all changed quickly when she was attacked by one of the meanest were-panthers around, Spencer Haverty. Now she is changing, and as if that weren't a big enough problem, she also finds out that she is the star of an ancient prophecy that says she has to save the world. However, with the help of an old were-lion named Iris and a super sexy Guardian named Charles Garret maybe she can pull this off.

It's pretty good. There were moments when I would get confused and I'm sure the book could have done with some further editing, but the essential story is good. The characters were a little murky. The author really needs to work on all of their back stories, which hopefully she can do in the next book. The whole story pretty much rests on the next book. If she can be more complete and exciting in her next story I will happily buy any that come out after.

  • Playing with Fire
    • Rated 5 stars

Belle Jamison is unhappy and restless. She is working for two, her beloved father and herself, and while she would happily work herself into the ground for her Dad she just can't seem to hold down a job. On the verge of loosing yet another job as a waitress at Utopia Cafe, Belle's future takes a drastic change, for the impossible. A seemingly innocent drink changes Belle into something new, something dangerous, and something a lot of people want to control. With the help of sexy super agent Rome Masters, Belle is going to have to learn how to control her new powers over the four elements before she has any hope of saving the people she loves and herself.

When I first read this book I absolutely loved it, the book was on my favorites shelf. However, my second time around I still loved it but it's no favorite. Belle is a sexy, sassy character whose emotions sometimes make her annoying but mostly make her powerful. Rome could use a little extra back story (and I hope the second book does that) but he is just as sexy as I remember them. The sparks between these characters leap off the page. Along with the perfect comic sidekick, Tanner, this book is definitely worth reading.

  • The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever
    • Rated 4 stars

When Miranda Cheever was ten years old Lord Turner, older brother to her best friend Olivia, said some of the kindest things to her anyone had ever said. On that day Miranda fell in love with him. She was still in love with him when he married the dreadful Luticia, and still in love with him when he buried her just a few years later.

Luticia was Turners greatest mistake. Over the few short years of their marriage she had broken his heart and crushed his soul. The last thing he needs in his life is another wife. However, while attending to his sister and her friend Miranda in London for their first season, Turner starts to realize something about Miranda. She is quiet and watchful, and completely captivating.

This book isn't perfect but I really like it anyway. Both characters are slightly unlikable. Turner is obstinate and at times cruel and Miranda is needy and overly demanding. However I still like them both. They compliment each other with their quirky senses of humor and sarcasm. They are both a little off beat and not quite with the times and I love that about them.

  • Halo
    • Rated 3 stars

Three angels arrive from Heaven to the small town of Venus Cove. Their mission, help humans rediscover the Lord and protect them from the dark forces encroaching upon them. Gabriel, the eldest, is an arch-angel and a warrior. Ivy is compassionate and loving, she is gifted with healing. Bethany is a recent angel, she feels almost as deeply as a human. While her "siblings" have misgivings about her attendance on this mission Bethany is ready to embrace her new human life and the mission. The she meets Xavier Woods.

I was a little conflicted about the rating I would give this book. It lands somewhere between two and three stars. The book is a little to preachy for my tastes. I tried to over past this, but all I saw a a too wordy contradictory book. Bethany is a very annoying character. I like that she is a young angel. However, I really hated how whiny and childish she could be. At times I saw the angel she should have been but then she would turn into this quivering child. Except for Bethany and maybe Xavier, none of the characters were given much dimension. Also, the author would constantly go into philosophical tangents that lead nowhere. Despite the length I did mange to read this book pretty fast. I am also impressed by the young age of the author.

  • Beg for Mercy
    • Rated 5 stars

Megan Flynn thought she had been falling in love with Homicide Detective Cole Williams. That is until he arrested her brother, Sean Flynn, for murder and turned his back on her. Now, three years later, Megan's brother is on death row and his time is running out.

Megan has never given up the conviction that her brother is innocent and she will do anything to save him, even asking the man he broke her heart three years ago for help.

I greatly enjoyed Beg for Mercy. It was immensely thrilling. While the mystery didn't leave me guessing exactly I still couldn't put this book down. The relationship between Cole and Megan was very satisfying and while I could predict a lot of what was going to happen in the story I still loved every minute. I am very excited that the next book in this series will feature... Well, that's a bit of a spoiler I guess so I wont say who it will feature.

  • Kitty's Big Trouble
    • Rated 5 stars

Kitty, Ben and Cormac are on their way to San Francisco to help Anastasia the Vampire and hopefully foil one of Roman's plots. However once there nothing is as it seems, especially the secret tunnels under the city.

One of my favorite series currently out there, these books just always seem to short. I loved that Kitty has more control in this book and it is Ben as the one who needs support. It's been a long time since Kitty got to show off her werewolf experience. However, I was a little annoyed with Kitty in this book as well. She was even more incessantly annoying with her pointless questions than usual. I can't wait for the next book.

  • Eat, Slay, Love
    • Rated 4 stars

It's been a month since David was bitten by a zombie and cured. Now David and Sara are on their way to the mid-west wall to get the cure into the hands of someone who can replicate it. However, are they sure the cure has work 100%? David has been exhibiting some strange side effects. He is stronger then normal, his breathing patterns have changed, pain doesn't seem to register with him, and oh yeah, there is that thing with the zombies.

The third book was just as exciting, fast paced, and funny as all the others but I found myself not liking this one as much. The relationship between David and Sarah has changed a little since the accidental biting and it through off their chemistry a little bit. Also the addition of some really annoying side characters had me thinking zombie lunch time thoughts. Although, I was surprised and delighted when they reached the mid-west wall. I thought the turn of events there was very interesting and I can't wait to see where it goes.

  • The Vampire Stalker
    • Rated 5 stars

The Otherworld trilogy by Elizabeth Howard is an extremely popular teen series. The second book has just been released and Amy Hawthorne is one of the first in line to find out what new has happened to her favorite character Alexander Banks. Known as the Vampire Stalker, he is a brooding enigmatic character who has captured Amy's heart. Little does she know that he is not just a character in a book but a real person who has just crossed into Amy's world and is still on the hunt for the dangerous and vicious vampire Vigo Skaar.

I had a lot of fun reading the Vampire Stalker. I loved how she lightly made fun of the mania surrounding some books but also didn't make me feel like a complete freak for participating in it sometimes. I laughed thinking of a real character from a book at a signing and seeing hundreds of people dressed up as real people in his life.

I loved the characters! Alexander was an excellent lead character and Amy was the perfect match for him. I also loved meeting some of the other characters and really wished I could have spent more time with all of them. I would love for this book to have a second one, or maybe I will take my first foray into fan fiction.
