Julie Arduini: The Surrendered Scribe

I'm a writer and public speaker residing in NE Ohio with my husband and two children. My heart is to encourage others to find freedom through surrender. I know that has to start with me so I'm surrendering the good, the bad, and maybe one day, the chocolate.

I'm an avid reader and review books on my blog. Check everything out at my... more »

    Women of Passions

    by Janet Ross, Jeanice McDade
    • Rated 5 stars

I admit I was a contributing writer to this book, but I was blown away by the content as a reader. The other writers opened their heart and soul, so transparent in their experiences, feelings and revelations in this book. I've heard a lot of feedback from family and friends that read the book and they too felt the same. Readers are given hope through these pages.

I'm working on gift ideas for teachers, mentors, etc...and this is the book I'm giving everyone.

  • Evidence of Murder (Murder Mystery Series #1) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #137)
    • Rated 3 stars

I loved the premise behind this book. Samantha Reid is getting ready to open her own business, her first step in breaking away from her parents. She stumbles upon some old photos that tie into a murder that is ten years old.

Ryan Davidson is the last surviving member of that murdered family. Together they try to unravel the mystery and remain survivors.

I loved the idea of a photo shop and finding gruesome photos that instantly put Samantha in the middle of a mystery. She also has a great backstory that explains her hesitation to start something new apart from her family.

Ryan is full of regret and anger and is suprised by how easy he opens up to Samantha. His faith is all but gone.

There was a good amount of suspense, cute humor, and romance to keep this rolling along. My only hope was that there would be more conflict between Ryan and Samantha. At the same time, it's a credit back to the author. Her previous books, especially on the cat and mouse game regarding stolen art, was so full of conflict she spoiled me.

This is a quick read and perfect for the snowy day I'm living in.

I really enjoyed this book. It had political scandal, suspense, drama, redemption, action and romance. I'm looking forward to the next book these two write together.

I wrote a more complete review for Thomas Nelson Book Blogger Review over at my blog, The Surrendered Scribe.

  • Wiser Than Serpents (Mission: Russia)
    • Rated 5 stars

I love this series. The intrigue, the faith search, and compelling characters keep me wanting more. I'm a history/political buff, so the tensions between the Russian and US organizations is thrilling to read. In this book especially, the theme of human trafficking is explored. The world needs to have the compassion shown in this book. Great romance, too!

  • Finding Stefanie (Noble Legacy)
    • Rated 4 stars

I think this is a great book for any young woman (or young at heart) who believed less about her through her actions or words spoken against her. Stefanie put a pause on her life when she made a mistake and felt the best she could ever be was a helper on the family ranch. This story was sweet, full of characters I already loved from previous books, and a great lesson on grace. I love these books!

  • Character Makeover: 40 Days With a Life Coach to Create the Best You
    • Rated 5 stars

If you really want to see a transformation from the inside out, this is the book for you. Filled with great stories, Scripture, exercises, and interactive readings from the website, this is not a book for those not ready to change.
Traits such as perserverance, generosity, self control, etc...are covered.
This would be a great book to do in a small group setting. Highly recommend.

  • Faking Grace

This book should please both sides of the pew, so to speak. For those nervous about church and the hypocrites in them, this gives a fair shake at what really goes on. For those who have a personal faith in Christ, you'll find this book charming, romantic, humorous at times, and most likely, a bit convicting. Great conflict and characters. I am so glad I read this one!

I looked at this book as a writer and reader and came away highly impressed! Any how to book on writing says paint your characters in a corner and figure out how to get them out, only to put them in another. That was this book. Her tag line, "Don't forget to breathe" is accurate. This was so top notch on cat and mouse I truly was holding my breath.

As a reader if you love suspense, a story of redemption, and a fully developed cast of characters with zigs and zags you are not going to guess...get this book. Now.

  • Have a New Kid by Friday: How to Change Your Childs Attitude, Behavior & Character in 5 Days
    • Rated 5 stars

I'm a big fan of Dr. Leman and his parenting ways and much of what he wrote in the beginning, I was already implementing. But I have a feeling his advice would be revolutionary for many parents who have not read his work before. More than that, at the end he answers every parenting topic from A-Z for all age groups, and he really covered a lot of area.

If you know of a child who rules the family home, this book may be difficult to read, but it's worth giving his words a shot.

I knew there was controversy surrounding this book but I knew no more than that. I am so glad I read the book for myself, and I urge you to do the same. I hunger for an intimacy with God that has nothing to do with rules, systems or establishment and my guess those who have controversy probably have a relationship with those things. I don't know, but I found the book riveting and with words, descriptions, and emotions I won't soon forget.

Kudos to the author of this book. I know you're facing heat for it, but you obeyed God in writing it. Those that choose to want more from Him will be drawn to the book as I was.
