Salsabrarian

I'm a youth librarian so most of my reading is children's and YA literature. My "Books I'm Reading" shelf features my current books, typically four titles at a time. It is usually two audiobooks (one for gym, one in car) and two hard copies (for breaks at work and on the nightstand).

I have FINALLY as of August '09 transferred all my... more »

Yes, that was an Amazing book. Our lives are SO easy. Have you seen the "Three Cups of Tea" picture book, "Listen to the Wind?" It was done really well.

Yeah, I think the waiting room and the house call might be lost on the kids, but they keep us readers entertained. There's enough in the story that they love. Kunchok always has to comment that the teacher looks like she's going to throw up when the snake is doing her trick on the bars. And he loves the principal getting mad. We read Goodnight Goon a couple months ago. He enjoyed it. Didn't know about the sequel. Will watch.

I requested our library purchase, "Are You A Horse" and we got it this week. Have you seen "Doctor Ted"? Instant favorite, even with the big boys.

I'm looking to see if you had a review for Chanda's Secrets. I'm not sure if there is an easy way to navigate your shelf to find it. I ditched the book because it didn't sound like an African girl. It sounded to me like an American trying to write about Africa. Couldn't get over that, so I moved on....

Did you notice on the book pages it now lists the book's dewey decimal number? That's cool! I'm so disappointed in myself- for a lot of things I have to check the computer for the dewey number because I no longer remember most of them. Brain space being used for other stuff....

I told one of my girls about that one. She is really excited to read it too, but it is harder to get books here. All I've got it ILL! I may have requested it for purchase, I can't remember, but they aren't buying until July.

Hi Salsabrarian, I just finished, _After Tupac and D Foster_, Woodson is my favorite YA author. I've read many of her books and intend to read them all. I was very happy to have read her latest. I love her style, clarity and authenticity. She is a gifted writer. Peace. ~zawadi

    Hi,

    Thanks again for the friendship.
Have you heard of the 50 book reading book challenge? Or the 100 book challenge? This year, I'm going to participate in the 50 book reading challenge, trying to read and blog about at least 50 books by April 1, 2009. Feel free to join me. You can set any goal you like. You should come by to check me out sometime on my new blogspace, www.classybookdiva.wordpress.com and maybe start your own blog!

Tell me how A Great and Terrible Beauty is... it looks good, but because it is so thick (and the subsequent books in the series) I am wondering if it is worth the read. Thanks!

Thanks, Salsabrarian! Sounds like it might be appropriate for classroom instruction with an advanced (and motivated) group of readers, although not something they would pick out for independent reading. I'll take that under advisement!

Hi Salsabrarian! I saw your review of Good Masters, Sweet Ladies, and I was wondering if you knew whether kids were enjoying the book. I am trying to compile a recommended list of books to order for advanced fifth and sixth graders at our school. But I don't want to make the mistake we made with other Newbery winners -- such as A Single Shard. Perhaps that is a great story, but it is not one that inspires or engages our sixth graders. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Dianne Salerni
