So glad you enjoyed it, was much better paced than the first and a great story. Yes I read the third one straight after, not quite as good as the second but still very good I thought. Was very disappointed when I'd finished it and there were no more. Hope you enjoy it.

It was just ok until the end of the first part when these words are uttered, 'and from this point forward , nothing further is known about the citizen named Pak Jun Do.' At this point the book has my undivided attention. I was surprised, and then the depth of the writing and the story was mesmerising.

Hi Erin! Wow, your shelf says we have 82 books in common. Very cool! I'll be interested to see what you think of The Kingmaking, since if I recall you had trouble with Hollick's Forever Queen as I did. I'm curious to see if the writing is any better this time out. It's her Arthurian series, right? That can be so good, or such a mess, depending on the writer's take on the legends.
    Happy reading!

It's not really about the Fox sisters, or at least, I thought it was more Clara's book than anybody's. Selling it as a Fox sisters book is misleading advertising and sets an expectation that's bound to be disappointed. (That was my big beef with The Lace Reader, false advertising.)

I still think her stuff is worth reading, at least the Plantagenet books I've read, but only when you're looking for simpler historical fiction. At least she gets her history right so that is what will keep me going :-)

You haven't started The Kingmaking yet have you? I noticed a number of people have, but I won't get to it till at least next week.

I was originally going to give the Plaidy book three stars, but when it came right down to it I just didn't like the book. The history was fine, but too simple -- lots of events mentioned in passing with no reference to what they were or why they were significant. Nothing was wrong with the writing, but I didn't like any of Plaidy's characterizations. Mary drove me nuts, as did Marguerite and Louise of Savoy. Plus the whole 100 pages dedicated to Francois when the book wasn't even about him seemed a little much. Overall, I can understand why ratings for the book are generally good, but this particular book just didn't appeal to me.

I've read a couple of Plaidy's Plantagenet books and think I rated them 3 stars. While I still thought they were a little too simple for my own tastes, they were overall good reads.

Yes, I'm planning to read The Kingmaking. You?

Hi! I've already promoted you to admin :-)

I wish I hadn't picked the Plaidy book as my final read of 2011 -- it's not bad, but it's certainly not very good. This is the third Plaidy book I've read and I haven't been blown away by any of them.

    Hi Erin,

Just stopping by to wish you a very Merry Christmas and all the best, and hopefully improved health, for a Happy New Year. It's not easy being a mum and the person who keeps the show running whilst having health problems and I really do admire how you battle on. I do hope things will be better for you next year.

    Happy Holidays,
    Sabina
