This site is the group effort of AP English Teachers who wanted a shelf for our favorite books for babies, children, and young adults. All the teachers on our listserv know the username and password, and they have been adding to the shelves daily. If you would like to contact someone about this shelf, my username is vasturner.

I recently read "The Education of LIttle Tree", by Forrest Carter. This was selection of a book club I belong to. I would highly recommend this book for middle schoolers and up. We are an adult group, but loved this book!!!!

While there is much debate about the author, the story is wonderful for all generations.

I have not read The Next Place. But I put it on my wish list. I am constantly amazed at the numbers of children's books that are out there. You have a very nice collection of kid lit. And a number of them I put on my wish list. I'm glad you had fun looking at my collection. You got a lot of books showing for only having joined. What's your connection? to so many that is. And how do you decide what you buy?

Welcome to Shelfari, try the kid lit group. I just joined it and enjoy the discussions.

Thanks for the note! I looked through your shelf - it does give me some ideas for my kids. My oldest is almost 8...I just bought her a few Ronald Dahl (sp?) books. My favorite's growing up were Boxcar Children, Babysitter's Club, and Narnia books.

And, I'm just finishing up two graduate classes this summer - one is Children's Lit and the other is Young Adult! I don't read a whole lot of these genres except what I teach to my 9th graders or have to read in my college classes. I kind of skipped straight to things like "Gone With the Wind" by 7th grade - so I'm trying to go back and pick up some of these two genres - and it's nice to have somewhere to look for suggestions! Thanks, Jen

Well hello! Happy you asked me to be your friend! Precious baby. I have 2 grown sons, the older is married and has 2 children; Celeste nearly 4, Dawson 18 months. I just finished reading What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew, I thought it was very interesting, no black pudding for me though!

Thanks for the invite! You have a great shelf, though it seems to be geared toward either the picture book or YA sets. May I suggest a few books for the elementaries...? I had to practically force my daughter to read until she discovered Judy Blume's Fudge books and the Katie Kazoo series by Nancy Krulik. Now I have her begging for 5 more minutes to read before bed! Oh, and who could leave out Junie B. Jones?

I will definitely by checking out some of the picture books for my son!

I've just added a bunch of YA books... all by Garth Nix. I love his stuff. I'll admit I haven't finished the seventh tower or the 'day' series, but my students have liked them. I teach Shade's Children to grade 10's and the Abhorsen series is of a similar difficulty, largely due to "themes", but we need to be more careful about those at school than at home:-)
