My reading focus tends to be mystery, fantasy, science fiction, travel...and any combination thereof - but most genres are worth a shot. I prefer happy endings, but suspenseful middles; relationship centric, with some flashes of humor. ... more »

Did you enjoy "Fortune & Fate"? I got an Amazon credit card (gives points for Amazon Gift Certificates) so I can afford to buy hardbounds. So I read "Bone Crossed" too. I'm such a fan of Shinn & Briggs, I always enjoy their books.

Dear Sara: I am an author from Massachusetts. My debut novel HUNTING THE KING was published in April. It has received high praise from such literary journals as Booklist, ForeWord Magazine and the Midwest Review. If you enjoy reading a good thriller, you may well like HUNTING. The story revolves around a charismatic young woman named Molly O’Dwyer. Molly was five years old when she witnessed her mother's death in a fire. She never knew her father. After her mother's death, she was raised on the campus of a Jesuit college in Boston. Now an archaeologist, she is recruited to participate on a dig in war torn Iraq. As a scientist she is compelled to know who or what is buried under the sands of ancient Babylon. As a loyal Catholic, she is scared that what she finds may have devastating consequences for her faith. There is an awesome YouTube book trailer well worth watching to give you an idea of the power of the book. Thanks.

I just bought The Light-bearer's Daughter not knowing it was the third of a trilogy.
Can it be read as a stand alone novel? Or are the first two a must for understanding the plot?

Thanks, Sara. You probably noticed: I am very fond of the city and read about it a lot. I recommend Gopnik's book, as well as Wharton's. Both give an itneresting view of the city and the French.
