The true life amazing story of one of the men who go out to explore and bet their own lives on truth of an idea, s theory. And there are many such men too - in our times as in past.

Most people of ancestry from Europe, especially those that belonged to US, have been under the officially...

Kon-Tiki is far and away the most engaging and compelling book I've read. It tells the story of a group of Scandinavian adventure seekers who decide to build a period raft and float (that's right, float) the distance from Peru to the South Pacific Isles. This book is filled with their observations, thoughts, and musings from their trip at sea. From the moment I picked this up, I found myself on the Kon-Tiki with Thor and the rest of his gang. Page after page of some of the most interesting writing I have ever seen. This is an absolute MUST READ.

Not only does this story tell of the history of early navigation it also shows the steadfast endurance of ones beliefs of the migration of civilizations across the vast waters of our earth.

Easily one of the greatest travel diaries ever written...it reads more like an adventure story. And that's saying something, seeing as how the voyage of the "Kon-Tiki" was actually a scientific expedition. Thor Heyerdahl and his colleagues, in an effort to prove that Polynesians may have come from South America and not from Asia as was guessed, built a wooden raft and sailed across the South Pacific. They made it.

One of my favorite authors- Heyerdahl does something that not many in his field do. He connects the people of the Islands to the people of South America. Having grown up in the Pacific I found it fascinating that so many ignore the oral history of the Polynesian people, which indicates that they came from the East and tells a story not unlike what Heyerdahl describes.

Great account of an amazing journey across the pacific from
Peru to Polinesia in a Balsa wood raft. The book also provides little gems of information regarding survival (e.g. they were ok with drinking 0.8L of sea water a day) and author's theories on evolution, anthropology and history.

An enjoyable adventure story about the real life kon-tiki voyage from South America to Easter Island to prove the origins of the Polynesians. Great stuff.

True adventure of 6 men sailing from peru to polynesia in 1947 on a balsa log raft. Three months on the open sea in a raft they built themselves using the materials early explorers might have used. A quest for adventure and knowledge could the people of South America have settled the polynesian islands scientists and researchers said no...but Heyerdahl roved them wrong.

Six men on a small raft sail four thousand miles across the Pacific Ocean, from Peru to the Polynesian Islands. Interesting, but long.

This was a pretty amusing book. I mean...who doesn't want to read about people crossing the Pacific Ocean on a raft? Overall it was well-written but it lost my attention after awhile and I was glad it was over. There was pictures in my edition too :D
