My husband bought be this book for a couple of reasons, I think. To help me understand his love for gaming and all things nerdy, and because the girl who wrote it is super cute. Shelly Mazzanoble, also a playwright and fashionista, really explains the ins and outs of D&D, and makes it feel down...

If you're a girl and have ever been interested in playing Dungeons and Dragons or you just want to know what the heck your boyfriend/husband is doing all day with his friends, this is your read. Shelly is engaging, hilarious, and convincingly simple with her explanations and how-tos. She even has some shopping advice for that outdated - uh, classic - wardrobe.

I enjoyed it because it did fill in a knowledge gap I had with D&D, although I already play. I think you'll do better with this book if you have some experience with D&D already. Plus, the author is extremely girly and is infatuated with manicures, shopping and shoes. She's a little shallow a times too, but I think she's trying to appeal to the polar opposite of the stereotyped D&D person. My male friend really disliked this book because he thought it was demeaning and disrespectful of women. I do admit that it does make women look kind of superficial and dumb, but this book did fill a gap in my knowledge of D&D and I am still very glad I read it. I especially liked the cheat sheet in the back.

Shelly Mazzanoble, also a playwright and fashionista, really explains the ins and outs of D&D, and makes it feel down right cool. It's even, so I've been told by my husband, a good read for Guys. It's entertaining and enlightening.
