Wonderful Berg novel! Took me back to Chicago and WWII. I did not want this to end! Although the ending totally took me by surprise, I loved it! One of her best!

So-so.....interesting insight on the homefront, though. Ending was silly, I thought.

Pleasant story about the home front during World War II. Even when things get sad, it remains particularly pleasant as if the author didn't want to really talk about things but rather brush them under the table like a few characters do when things get sordid. However, a delightful account of USO dances and girls in Chicago who go to them.

I enjoyed this book, but I didn't like how things turned out. At all.

I loved this book right up to the last chapter or two. The ending RUINED it for me.

The book held my attention and was a quick read. I mostly enjoyed the relationships developed in the book: between the sisters, between Hattie and Kitty, between the parents, etc. I thought the ending, though, was a complete flop. It seemed like Berg tried to wrap up too many loose ends way too quickly (and incompletely). The flash-forward to 2006 wasn't necessary and seemed to parallel "The Notebook" (Sparks) a little too much for me. Overall, the book was mostly pleasurable and makes a girl want to squeeze her man a little tighter after reading.

The jacket has an incorrect summary. It says that Louise has been writing to her fiance Julian. How could this be?

light and easy but ending was really bad. What could be Elizabeth Berg's reason for writing that ending?

Awesome, easy to read book; reminds me of a 1940's version of Little Women!
