What are the chances of a small town girl falling in love with a big rock star and he falls for her too? Zilch! Thats pretty much real life but in this cool romance story not so. It is a interracial love story that just couldn't have been better. I LOVED it. Bryan is in Alabama after the death...

I found this to be a very good debut novel.

I really enjoyed the story. It seems like they spent most of the book apart, so I wish we got to see them together more.

    (c) October 2008 by Gracie C. McKeever

Bryan Spencer is a wildly popular and talented rock star from L.A. and lives the sort of life that most "regular" folk only dream about. That is, unless you're one small town bookstore owner named Callie Lawson from Maple Fork, Alabama.

Callie is a "good", church-going girl who respects her parents and listens to their advice. At twenty-nine, she's only had one real sexual encounter way back in college and is generally clueless and naive when it comes to relationships and how attractive she is to the opposite sex. She has poured all of her energies since college into her five-year plan and building a retail empire along with her college friend Tonya.

When Bryan comes to town on a mission to heal his battered soul after the loss of a very close friend, his presence turns Maple Fork topsy-turvy in general, and Callie inside out with unaccustomed lust in particular.

Can a white hedonistic rock star find love and stability with a down-home African American woman from small town U.S.A.?

Like the small town that Callie comes from the story was quaint and sweet. Bryan's infamous lifestyle and reputation bring spice and adventure to Maple Fork and Callie, but most of all, he is a credible suitor who shares a perfect chemistry with Callie.

At times the numerous character POV's and POV transitions were a little overwhelming, but overall, this was an enjoyable read about an old-fashioned love and a made-for-each-other couple who overcome the odds to be together.

It is a interracial love story that just couldn't have been better. I LOVED it. Bryan is in Alabama after the death of his best friend and bandmate. His manager sends him there to a cabin to relax and try and heal his wounds. His best friend had been with him since they were very little and abused children. So it is hard to let go. When he walks into Callie's bookstore to buy some books her and her partner are doing some funky things with ropes and his mind just starts flying with things that he would like to do with this beauty to end his celibacy. One thing leads to another. But Callie is a good girl. A small town girl and it will take more than a rockers smooth charm to win her over.

    Just An Okay Read

It was an okay debut from Rosylyn Hardy Holcomb, but it just didn't thrill me like some of the other IR novels I've read. Based upon the reviews, I bought Rock Star and I had high hopes for it but, the story just didn't hold my attention. I found myself skipping over paragraphs and peeking ahead to see if it would get better. When I finally finished I was relieved it was over. Strange, because I did enjoy Bryan's character and the depth of his feelings for Callie but, I just did not enjoy the entire ride. I couldn't even bring myself to care about the so called romance that was supposed to be blossoming between him and Callie. It's definitely not the worst romance I've ever read, but, in good consciousness couldn't give it a higher rating than 3 stars.

A wonderful story with depth, memorable characters, and undeniable chemistry and passion between the leads.
