“I read this more by turning each page but I didn't really figure out what was happening. It does have one of the coolest titles ever, though.”

This book deserves to be re-read perhaps even more than once. It took me a bit to grasp that the story was allegorical, so I intend to go back for another look. This (and near as I know every other Lessing book) is no fluffy 'page-turner'. Lessing is among an ever decreasing number of writers who create for an intellectual audience.”

Throughout my reading of a "Briefing for a Descent into Hell" my feelings oscillated between liking and disliking it. I was intrigued by some of Lessing's comments on "madness," the "self," and the "stream of consciousness" style, but I felt that there was something missing. I don't think I'd reread it!”
