  • Wikipedia article: Noble House is a novel by James Clavell, published in 1981 and set in Hong Kong in 1963. It is part of Clavell's Asian Saga. It is a massive book, well over 1000 pages, with dozens of characters and numerous intermingling plot lines. In 1988, it was adapted as a television miniseries for NBC starring Pierce Brosnan. The miniseries updates the storyline of the novel to the 1980s. The Noble House also is a nickname of Struan's, the trading company featured prominently in most of Clavell's novels.
  • Book Review from Neosho Forums: Noble House is a continuation of the "Asia" chronicles that began in 1600 with Clavell's book Shogun. After Shogun, the setting switches from Japan to Hong Kong with Tai-Pan. In Tai-Pan we are introduced to Dirk Struan, the "tai-pan" of the Noble House. A company who made their vast fortune smuggling Opium to China. Following Tai-Pan, Clavell wrote Gai-Jin. A massive book that ties together Shogun and Tai-Pan very well as well as setting the stage for the book in question, Noble House. Noble House takes place in 1969 Hong Kong. The action spans 8 days and it is very involved and breathtaking at times. We start off with our "hero" Ian Dunross laying claim to the title of "tai-pan" of the Noble House. Ian is a descendent of the late Dirk Dunross.
