“This is not so much a review of the book as a way of informing prospective students of why I choose a few chapters from it for my course on Competitive Marketing Strategy. Obviously there isn't yet a good book for that kind of course. The material in chapter 8 fits nicely into the way I like to discuss competitive pricing, with focus on price wars, their causes and ways to avoid them. Chapter 10 is short and I like that. I am not a fan of the Five Forces but the Value Net discussion is good, and the examples give a little guidance to basic understanding of industry analysis. Chapters 11-13 are somewhat general for my purpose but they provide a wealth of ideas that can be tuned to marketing strategy with some careful tinkering. I hope I succeed in that.”
