This book wasn't at all what I had expected. After reading so many reviews about how hilariously funny it was, I found it to be a total let-down.

This book that i have read is about a guy who is going through a lot of things that teenagers go through at this age...puberty. He is also having a lot of problems in his life such as problems with his grilfriend, he finds out that his father is also the father of another women's child, and since his mother is pregnant, he isn't happy about a sibiling. He used to love being the only child. But in the end, i think the moral would be that, you don't always get what you want in life. Life just isn't fair.
I would reccommend it to people who like to read disgusting books because this book is a total killer!!!!!!!

Review: This is the actually the first two Adrian Mole books combined into a single volume, so it begins when Adrian is 13 3/4, and ends after he turns 16. The concept is simple: Adrian jots a couple notes daily regarding his activities and impressions, and takes the reader through all the angst of being a somewhat nerdy, awkward teenager with less than stellar parents. He goes through all of the typical teen dramas (first love, acne, erotic dreams) and some less typical experiences (really whack parents, it was kind of shocking at times), and his naivete is both funny and sad at the same time. Published in 1982, his diary notes contain commentaries on many current events of the time, including the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, and the military action regarding the Falkland Islands.

I can remember reading the first of the two books included in this volume when I was about 12 myself. It was given to me by a friend of my dad's since she knew I was an avid reader; however, since it was not Sweet Valley High, contained a male main character, and included a lot of slang and events references that I didn't understand, it didn't interest me at all. I'm glad to say that all of those are no longer factors with this recent reading; however, I was often left feeling more sad than amused by the situations Adrian's family got themselves in. A 14 year old kid dealing with the fact that both of his parents had adulterous relationships, his father having a child out of wedlock, skipping school to go to the welfare office with his also-pregnant mother...all seemed to be extremely grim topics for a fiction book that I understood as being meant for a young adult audience. It was mildly disturbing.

I chuckled over a few parts, but more often than not I was stuck on the British mannerisms and references to things of which I had no idea what the characters were talking about. I gave up after the fifth chapter.

Maybe others will find it a lot more humorous and easier to read than I did!

This book was hilarious. Its the coming of age story of a young English boy, written in diary form complete with a dictionary in back to de code some of the British words he uses...very, very, funny. Especially if you like British humor and GB in general. I have read it a few times now and it still makes me laugh.

This was a very entertaining and quick read. Very much like Bridget Jones, but told from the point of view of a sex starved 13 year old boy rather than a sex starved woman in her thirties, it features the same wry British sense of humor. Adrian is an endearing character. I think I will make a reading list from the books he read during the 2+ years of his diaries, but I am not sure I could really keep up with him.

One of my absolute faves from my childhood. They don't write 'em this funny for kids any more.
