Its a story of pre-independance era. An Amritsar girl, Virmati, who desires to study than falling prey to early marriage. In her struggle to convince her family about education, she falls in love with a married man. A twist in the story. In the middle of burning India, it becomes interesting to read how Virmati gets strangled between her lover, family and education. An excellent piece by Manju Kapur. The author has brilliantly explained a life of an Indian girl in those days. Though today...

I am into middle of this book.
The very description about the book compelled me to buy this book :)

Well" the soulmate" concept and Brida's search for the one is truly enthralling
Her naivety, her disappointments and her urge to be at bridge b/w visible and invisible, coupled with the “traditions” makes this book very interesting and Special

It is as if Paulo Coelho knows so much about me, Brida and all such soulmates.
