    DECEMBER 26

There’s a group of visceral detectives (read: readers) poring over this book and other obras maestras of Bolaño.

You are invited to join and are not required to bring anything. Except maybe the book that changed your life.

    Thanks.

All I have to say is keep reading. Remember that the second half of the book is in the structure of a detective taking statements from numerous individuals that knew Balano and Lima. The dates and times have less to do, in a fisrt read, with them than their actual interactions, past or present, with the interviewees. This is such a monumental acheivement. I feel sickened every time I realize we've lost this prose master.

I'm struggling with this book. Left it down for a while but felt drawn to it but very confused. Are the all poets mentioned in it real or inventions?

I agree that just after the beginning, few pages are kinda drag. But that is only few pages...then it takes a rare impetus...It is incredible...It is a masterpiece!!! Masterpiece in craft, theme, characters and concepts!!!

I am just about to give up on this book and I never do that. It's very slow moving, most of the literature references are unfamiliar to me. I might like it better if I were more familiar with Latin American poets.

I'm about 50 pages into this and so far it's incredible! Great command of language, funny, and highly original. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
