People of a certain sort will inevitably know something of Alice; many will know her intimately, for she, the rabbit-hole (down which she goes at the outset), the hatter (mad), the March Hare (madder), the duchess ("flamingoes and mustard both bite"), the Mock Turtle (of the species from which...

I've read this book several time and learned something new each time. This is not just a children's story - it is a metaphor for life.

For me "Alice in Wonderland" was hard to follow. The sequence in which events happened did not make any sense. The sequence of events seemed jumpy and there was basically no point to the story at all.

Alice was also a little irritating. She had the kind of dumb senseless little girl personality who questioned everything for almost no reason. She always seems to interupt a person when they are telling a story with dumb questions of who? and why? I just wanted to hear the persons story but Alice would not allow it sometimes.

The Queen was also another character who bothered me. She was irrational, and loud, and if you were in her presense it had to be known that she was in charge. She was charismatic but almost in a loud annoying way. She would also make stupid disicions by sentencing almost everybody in the court to execution just because they would talk out of turn or whatnot. However she would change her mind and set everybody free because she would not have anybody left in her kindom if they were actually executed.

The plot of the story had no relavence. It jumped from one pointless event to another. The only goal Alice had in the whole book was that she wanted to get to the beautiful garden, and she did not even really try to get there.

Overall "Alice in Wonderland" was hard to follow. It was difficult because there were pointless events in the story and it seemed Alice would not let people talk because she would always interupt with dumb questions. That is one of my biggest pet peeves so maybe you will enjoy the book.

Brilliantly imagined and inspiring. Lewis Carroll was perhaps the first person to use the last line '...and that's when I woke up...it was all a dream...'

I never read this classic book as a child so I figured it was about time. Carroll definitely ahd a vivid imagination but I didn't really get the point of the story except to be in a very odd land. I think I need to research more what Carroll was saterizing. An interesting book but not one I'm likely to re-read.

Great, unpredictable book. Anything can happen in wonderland! Besides, some dialogues and quotes are just unmissable.

Psychedelic. Not a simple children's fiction.

Since I consciously detached myself from the Disney interpretation, reading it became a whole (mocha) latte different experience. I imagined the characters and scenes by myself, and everything turned out so 3D, vivid, magical and CRAZY. Dude, Lewis Carroll's imagination was so wild wild west, I would trade anything for it. I love the parts where Alice acknowledged the curiousness of the circumstances. She was The Rational amidst The Irrational. (Though in real life I'm sure she was The Irrational amidst The Rational.) This is one of my favorite insights of hers: "Alice waited till the eyes appeared, and then nodded. 'It's no use speaking to [the Cheshire Cat],' she thought, 'till its ears have come, or at least one of them.'" Makes sense, no? And despite the surreality of everything, Lewis Carroll was able to tie them down with a logical plot, ex: there was a logical backstory as to why Mad Hatter and Hare had tea forever. I'M SO EXCITED TO SEE THE MOVIE. And read Through The Looking Glass. :)
