One of the better travelogues I have read. Theroux's style is critical and at times mildly irritating but always entertaining. You actually feel his scorn of the natives and laugh out loud at his snide, dismissive remarks. He's not trying to sell you a destination as much as beckoning you to follow the trail and figure out for yourself the earthly spectacle as well as the romantic appeal of one of the most travelled parts of the world.
