• Carlisle Culllen: Vampire head and father figure of the Cullen family. He is able to resist human blood with little effort, allowing him to follow his chosen career path as a doctor.
• Edward Cullen: Born Edward Anthony Masen, the first to join Carlisle's family at the human age of 17. He has the ability to read minds.
• Esme Cullen: Born Esme Anne Platt, she later married and took the last name Evenson. She was the second to join Carlisle's family. They married shortly after and she considers herself to be the mother of Edward, Rosalie, Alice, Emmet, and Jasper.
• Rosalie Lillian Hale: The third to join the Cullen family, choosing to keep her own name out of vanity. She is married to Emmet Cullen and poses as Jasper's biological twin while in Forks.
• Emmet Cullen: Born Emmet Dale McCarty, he is the fourth to join the Cullen family. He is married to Rosalie Hale.
• Alice Cullen: Born Mary Alice Brandon, she joined Carlisle's coven alongside her husband Jasper. They are the first two not turned by Carlisle himself to join the family. She has the ability to see possible futures based on people's decisions.
• Jasper Hale: Born Jasper Whitlock, he joined Carlisle's coven alongside his wife Alice. He has the ability to feel and influence emotions of those around him.
• Bella Cullen: Born Isabella Marie Swan, she falls in love with Edward Cullen.
• Renesmee Carlie Cullen: Vampire-human hybrid.
• Aro: One of the Volturi, the "royalty" of the vampire world. He has the ability to read every thought a person has ever had by touching their skin.
• Caius: One of the Volturi, the "royalty" of the vampire world.
• Marcus: One of the Volturi, the "royalty" of the vampire world. He has the ability to sense relationships between people, and the strength of those relationships.
• Alec: Member of the Volturi guard and Jane's twin. He has the ability to cut off all physical senses.
• Jane: Member of the Volturi guard and Alec's twin. She has the ability to make a person feel excruciating pain.
• Chelsea: Born Charmion, she is a member of the Volturi guard. She can influence and even break ties between people if they are not strong enough.
• Demetri: Member of the Volturi guard who has the ability to track someone over any distance once he has sensed their mind.
• Felix: Member of the Volturi guard.
• Heidi: She works with the Volturi, bringing in tourists for their food. She has the ability to attract people to her.
• Renata: Member of the Volturi guard who can shield herself, and someone else if she is touching them, from physical attack by repelling the attacker.
• Kachiri: A member of the Amazon Coven along with Senna and Zafrina. She has no special power.
• Zafrina: Member of the Amazon coven who has the ability to make a person or group of people see whatever illusion she wants, or to cut off sight altogether.
• Carmen: Member of the Denali coven along with her mate Eleazar and sisters Kate, Irina and Tanya.
• Eleazar: Member of the Denali coven, and mate to Carmen, who has the ability to sense what other vampire's abilities are.
• Kate: Born Katrina, she is a member of the Denali coven who has the ability to send an electric shock through anyone she touches.
• Amun: Leader of the Egyptian coven consisting of his mate Kebi, Benjamin and Tia.
• Benjamin: Member of the Egyptian coven alongside his mate Tia. He has the ability to influence the elements.
• Liam: Leader of the Irish coven consisting of his mate Siobhan and Maggie.
• Maggie: Member of the Irish coven who is able to tell when someone is lying.
• James: Leader of a small nomadic coven who lived together out of convenience, consisting of himself, his mate Victoria, and Laurent. He is a skilled tracker, able to sense the most likely moves of his prey.
• Victoria: Mate of James who has an unnatural ability to evade enemies.
• Jacob Black: Quileute shapeshifter who can turn into a wolf. Bella's best friend.
• Charlie Swan: Bella's father and police chief of Forks.
• Renee Dwyer: Bella's mother, Charlie's ex-wife. Now married to minor-league basebll player/baseball coach Phil Dwyer.
• Sam Uley: Shapeshifter and alpha of one of the Quileutte wolf packs.
