It is much different from the Tanenbaum book in the sense, it provides more mathematical approach to computer networks. Both Tanenbaum and this book will serve as a good starting point to learn more about computer networks for undergrads. I think it edition is quite old and there is no more new...

    It's not a run of a mill book about networking casually using jargons and technical terms. It builds up from scratch and puts you through the journey since early days of telephone networks. So if you want to understand networking as a concept, this is the book to read.
