We think we'll know good/bad and right/wrong when we're presented with difficult choices. This novel, this author denies us that comfort by skillfully smudging the edges, tugging us back and forth, testing our allegiances. Which of the embattled characters laying claim to the same prize deserves to win? Issues of justice and prejudice that thread through the work stick with the reader well beyond the last page.

Perhaps reading this immediately after the Kite Runner was a mistake. It was too sad! Nevertheless, a good read, easy to read, believable characters and a tragic ending! Perfect for a weekend alone at home!

I think people who liked the Kite Runner would like this book as well. A dark but intense feel, and very eye opening to our lazy ways of life....

I agree with all the 5 stars this book got. It's a sensitively tuned plot with brilliant characterization and atmosphere and does what great lit should do...leaves you going "wow". It changes how you view culture clashes.
