A merciless and razor witted satire on Indian politics at a village level, told from the perspective of one who fancies himself an educated urban intellectual.
Hindi prose doesn't get any funnier.

This book is a unique in its genre. You can start at any page and can't stop bursting at seams. Not a single page is dull or boring. You can find all techniques of politics and related activities practiced in India in this single book. The detailing and perspective is amazing and unique. I have bought this book 3 times and every time it has been tattered due to excessive reading by me and my friends. Gem of a book.

A shining jewel of post-1947 Hindi literature. The English translation by Gillian Wright is adequate, but I am fortunate to have read the Hindi original. The satire is pungent, the humour brilliant, characters realistic. Was an equally popular TV series way back in the early Eighties. One for the ages.

The best book. How simply Sri Lal Shukla has sketched the Indian political system and that too in a great humorous way. Have you noticed there was only 1 female character in the book (Bela). I wonder if this is the reason girls dont like this book. :)

This is one of the finest political satire on Indian political system. This is a book written with in the 10 years of the independence, but the description of the system and its nuances are so relevant even today

The best. An excellent work by shri lal shukla. I strong hit on the existing systems of Indian democracy with a humour that makes u feel shame of being the part of it.
