“I loved the Maul sub-narrative but wanted the two stories to come together. At one point it's mentioned that the lab subject uses a mall video game to escape pain...and through the entire book I thought the "maul" narrative was partly generated by the game.
I thought the vision of a female-dominated world still controlled by biology quite compelling. ”
“I found this book made me think too hard to try to work out how the two stories were related, and I often forgot where I had been up to in the story as the two stories were interchanged each chapter. So each chapter was the continuation of the second last chapter, and so on.”
