Hamlet can't move forward. He's haunted by the past, which keeps him immobile in the present. Meanwhile, Fortinbras is decsively moving onward . . .

Never tire of this one.

I've liked all the Shakespeare plays that I've read so far, but not this one. It just seemed sort of pointless over all. I know you have the whole vengeance storyline where Hamlet has to kill his uncle, but I felt that Shakespeare should have given it a break with all the long speeches to get to...

I've liked all the Shakespeare plays that I've read so far, but not this one. It just seemed sort of pointless over all. I know you have the whole vengeance storyline where Hamlet has to kill his uncle, but I felt that Shakespeare should have given it a break with all the long speeches to get to the end faster. Everything else that was talked about seemed almost unimportant to the storyline, and made the book boring. So, I guess I'd recommend this book just to try and read it, not really for enjoyment. But don't expect something too epic or anything, maybe just the famous "To Be or Not To Be" speech.

I would ask my students to write a poem after reading Hamlet. The story contains a lot of emotions which most poems express. I would allow them to take the poem in any direction, just as long as it followed they way they felt while reading the book.

The thing I enjoyed most about this play was how much of it is left open to interpretation - like the true nature of the ghost and Hamlet's madness. It's the sort of story that you'll contemplate long after finishing it, and I appreciate that aspect of it.
